WoSFL Title Race

As we approach the end of March, the contenders for who can finish top of the West of Scotland Premier division become clearer.

The reigning holders are Beith who look to be the current favourites with 40 points after 20 games which equates to an average of two points a game. They may have lost Josh Fowler to the riches of Dubai but Ciaran Diver has been a terrific replacement with 33 goals in all competitions so far. Added to that they have Carlo Monti and Aaron Mason who has settled in well after being at title rivals Auchinleck Talbot.

It’s safe to say that Talbot were written off early on as the squad saw a significant turnover in terms of playing staff. Many of the players who came in were younger and maybe not widely known in this section of Scottish football. At the start of the season they struggled to get going with losses against Pollok, St Cadocs, Darvel and Clydebank.

Fast forward to now though and they have a massive week with St Cadocs (A), Darvel (A) and Beith (H) to play. Can Tommy Sloan lead Talbot to yet another league trophy?

The current league leaders Clydebank may have points on the board but it looks unlikely they will win the title now with them only having 5 games left to play and being only 5 points ahead of Beith. Latest league table.

St Cadocs have been an interesting addition to the league with a manager in Martin Fellowes who took over when Mick Kennedy got the East Kilbride Thistle job. They are right in the mix with their modern approach and use of technology which some at this level scoff at.

The potential prize on offer could be promotion to the Lowland League which no West of Scotland team has achieved so far. Potential opponents could be Broxburn who defeated Talbot in South Challenge Cup earlier in the season. The South of Scotland league has their own title race with Newton Sewart currently being top but Dalbeattie Star and Creetown hot on their heels. Latest league table
