There are several southern diddies posing as football writers and the headline which prompted this response came after Liverpool’s win against Blackburn.
The quote read “Late Carroll goal spares Dalglish’s blushes” which looks like the usual ploy to create a headline as opposed to an accurate observation. If Carroll’s goal spared anyone’s blushes they were surely his own given the poor level of performances he has given his club to date.
The southern hacks are quick to suggest that poor performances are down to the lack of management skills on the part of the boss, but former players of the standing of Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Ian Rush and Mark Lawrenson have all praised him as a manager. Put into international context they represent Scotland, England, Wales and The Republic of Ireland.
Kenny did not sign bad players as Downing, Henderson and the aforementioned Carroll were all England internationalists at the time, and Charlie Adam had played for Scotland. Not only that he was in big demand by a few clubs following an impressive season at Blackpool.
The truth is there have been inconsistent and often poor performances on a regular basis by one or other of the very same people.
As a final thought Kenny is the only manager to have won England’s top flight league competition with two different clubs. That is something Fergie has yet to achieve but he won’t venture out of his comfort zone.
